Gavin Newsom’s wife emailed Harvey Weinstein for help dealing with California Gov’s cheating scandal
Jurors in Harvey Weinstein’s trial may hear Gavin Newsom’s wife e-mail the movie mogul for advice on dealing with the media amid a scandal that saw the governor of California two years after Weinstein allegedly raped and sexually assaulted her. a judge has ruled.
The judge gave the defense limited permission to provide evidence of the message sent to Weinstein in 2007, when Newsom was mayor of San Francisco and was dating Jennifer.
But Los Angeles Supreme Court judge Lisa B. Lench banned the defense from discussing the underlying issue behind the email — the disclosure of an affair Newsom had had with an aide in 2005.

Judge Lench called it “too tangential in relation to this trial.” Weinstein’s attorney Mark Werksman adamantly argued for including the details.
“Of all the things you might think a woman raped by Harvey Weinstein wouldn’t do, it’s ask him how to deal with a sex scandal,” Werksman said.
Deputy District Attorney Marlene Martinez replied, “I’m not sure how Mr. Werksman knows” how a rape victim would behave.
“They don’t react the way someone who hasn’t been raped would think,” Martinez said.

Werksman argued that the content of the email was essential, saying that for Siebel Newsom and the other prosecutors in the trial, the power dynamic with Weinstein was essential.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lisa B. Lench has decided what evidence may be presented to the jury at trial
“If her boyfriend, the mayor, seduces a subordinate’s wife and gets a scandal over it,” she sided with the mayor,” he said, suggesting that it was essential to Weinstein’s rights that the judge who line of interrogation.
The judge suggested that the lawyer exaggerated the case by saying that Weinstein’s trial was at stake.
“Very dramatic, Mr Werksman,” Lench said.
Werksman replied, “Forgive the melodrama, Your Honor.”
Weinstein is charged with raping Siebel Newsom at a Beverly Hills hotel and forcing oral sex in 2004 or 2005.
Elizabeth Fegan, her attorney, said: “Like many women, my client was sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein during an alleged business meeting that turned out to be a trap.

“She plans to testify at his trial to seek some measure of justice for survivors and as part of her life’s work to improve women’s lives.”
Siebel Newsom first accused Weinstein of attacking her in a 2017 article for: The Huffington Post.
“I was naive, new to the industry and didn’t know how to handle his aggressive advances,” she wrote at the time.
In all, Weinstein is charged with 11 charges of rape and assault involving five women.
He is already serving a 23-year sentence for a rape and sexual assault conviction in New York.

The judge also ruled that the prosecution allowed the jurors to play a secret recording that another prospective witness at the trial, Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, made of Weinstein in conjunction with the New York Police Department in 2015.
In the recording, Weinstein apologized for his behavior during a previous encounter, where she said he touched her thigh and grabbed her breasts.
Police have investigated the incident, but prosecutors have not filed charges — a decision that came under scrutiny in 2017 as a spate of accusations against Weinstein fueled the #MeToo movement.
“It seems to me that as far as it is a confession, it is admissible,” the judge said.
The judge also ruled that the prosecution could provide a secret recording to jurors that another prospective witness at the trial, Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, made of Weinstein in conjunction with the New York Police Department in 2015.

Deputy District Attorney Paul Thompson said he could only play a short clip from the recording, but after a discussion with the defense, the two sides agreed that he should play all 43 minutes of it.
Gutierrez, an Italian model, is one of four women who have been allowed to testify at trial about sexual abuse by Weinstein, although their allegations are not among those he is accused of.
Siebel Newsom’s identity was first reported by the Los Angeles Times and her attorney said she is one of the women Weinstein is accused of sexual assault and who will testify at the trial.
After a day and a half arguing over what evidence will be heard at trial, including one in which actor-director Mel Gibson was cleared as a witness of the prosecution, the judge and jurors resume jury selection in the afternoon.
Siebel Newsom came forward again during the trial.
“What if I tell you the governor’s wife will be one of those witnesses?” Weinstein attorney Alan Jackson asked the jury panel. “By the way, she will be.”
The jury already knew this from the jury questionnaire they completed last week.
When asked whether their opinion of the governor or his wife would influence their judgment, no one said it would.
When asked by Thompson, at least five jurors said they had never heard of the #MeToo movement.
Opinions about the movement were divided among those who had strong feelings.
“I believe in a distinctly feminine voice,” said one woman.
Another woman said she didn’t have much respect for those who decided that “after 10 years, ‘oh this happened to me too’.”
“I think they’re looking for their 15 minutes of fame,” she said.
