Ian Holland returns to USA squad for Scotland tour

All-rounder Ian Holland, who had to miss all international obligations from the US in 2022 due to his commitments with Hampshire, has been called up to the 14-man squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two matches in Scotland later this month.
The Netherlands are one of three changes from the side that played in Texas in May-June in the games against Nepal, Oman, United Arab Emirates and Scotland, effectively replacing Ali Khan, who is still recovering from surgery on the a broken bone in his right arm.
During the USA’s undefeated run to the ICC Americas T20 Championship in Antigua last November, the Netherlands was their leading wicket taker, but since then he has missed the home ODIs in Texas as well as the tour of Zimbabwe for the T20 World Cup qualifiers. But after not being part of any of the rosters for the Men’s Hundred, he made himself available and opted to sidestep two matches in the Royal London One-Day Cup. The matches in Scotland run from 10 to 17 August.

“There is no doubt that the enforced absence of Ali Khan is a major blow to us,” Michael Voss, president of the US cricket squad, said in a statement. “We wish him the best in his ongoing recovery and look forward to returning to the US colors. However, the return of Ian Holland, who will be available for the US for the first time since the Americas T20 Qualifier in Antigua last November, is a huge boost for us.”

The other two changes in the ODI squad are due to health and logistics.

Jaskaran Malhotra, who missed the Texas ODIs after suffering a broken finger on the eve of the series, came back for 18-year-old Rahul Jariwala, who scored 28 runs in three innings in his debut run.
Fast bowler Rusty Theron was unable to obtain a visa to enter the UK, according to a press statement from the American cricketer, and that represented an opportunity for Jessy Singh as an option for pace bowling. He last played an ODI during the Oman tour in September 2021.

The US has two warm-up games against Scotland A on August 5 and 7 before the first of four games on the tour, against the UAE, in Aberdeen on August 11.
