PlayStation revealed that the long-rumored remake of The Last of Us was real in a leak hours before Naughty Dog could officially reveal it at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, but alas, it’s real after all.
Following on from the sequel, The Last of Us Part II, the remake is called The Last of Us Part 1, and it’s beautiful. It also costs $70, and some fans have criticized Naughty Dog and PlayStation at that price, arguing that $70 is a steep price tag for a game released on the PlayStation 3 before being remastered for the PlayStation 3 a year later. PlayStation 4. It also seems to be largely the same game, just with improved graphics and some changes to AI systems and other things under the hood. Nevertheless, it comes out on September 1 and will cost $70.
Since its unveiling, Naughty Dog has been slowly spreading information about the upcoming title, including neat comparison videos showing just how drastic the visual upgrades are. The studio released a new one this morning, this time comparing a series to Ellie and Joel riding a road horse. Check it out for yourself below:
As you can see, the difference is night and day, and the remake is much more like Part II. For more information, read our article on all the changes in The Last of Us Part I, then read Game Informer’s original review of The Last of Us.
