The family of the 16-year-old who died at Leeds Festival say they are ‘broken’ after their ‘beautiful and ‘fiercely independent’ boy was taken from them in the ‘most unfair’ way.

West Yorkshire Police have named the teenager as David Celino, 16, of Worsley, Salford.

David tragically died in the early hours of Sunday morning after reportedly ingesting a ‘gray or black’ MDMA tablet at Leeds Festival.

In a tribute, his family said: ‘Our David was a beautiful, fiercely independent and warm character who lived at 110% every day and loved to spend time enjoying music with his friends.

‘He had just completed fantastic GCSE results, entered university and hoped to study computer science at a top university.

‘Leeds Festival was the highlight of his summer; in the end it was to take his life in the most unfair, cruel and horrible way, and we are broken.”

Officers were called around 10:16 a.m. Saturday evening and were told the boy had been taken to the medical tent after falling ill.

He was taken to hospital but died tragically on Sunday.

West Yorkshire Police said: ‘While the exact cause of death has yet to be determined, one of the lines of investigation is that he had ingested a certain type of ecstasy (MDMA) tablet, which was described as having a gray or black oblong shape.

“At this point it is believed that this is an isolated incident as we have not received any similar reports.

‘Users of a drug that is not professionally prescribed can never be sure of the contents and the risks of taking the drug.’
